Many doctors who accept a position on the Regional Health Board receive a set of staff benefits, including: the professional relationship between doctors and Central Health is formally documented in the medical staff statutes of the central health authority. The Medical Staff Committee exists as a mechanism for informing physicians on administrative and organizational matters and provides a channel of staff views, collectively and individually, to reach management. Central Health physicians are organized into groups based on their clinical disciplines and health field. Each of these groups has a chief or medical director who sits on a medical advisory committee. The Chief medical officer or director is responsible for the effective organization, management and functioning of medical staff within the program/service, health or transfer center. The Regional Medical Advisory Board is represented by each of the two Transfer Centre Medical Advisory Committees and the Rural Medical Advisory Committee. Medical policy committees provide advice and recommendations on the management of medical staff, the quality of medical care and the planning of medical staff. The MCP payment plan identifies the amounts prescribed as due, as well as the rules and terms of payment set out in the Physicians and Fees Regulations for insured services provided by licensed physicians. Since October 1, 2008, the basic salary for general medicine is from 125,211 to 150,252 $US, based on a five-stage recognition of previous professional experience. In addition, retention bonuses are paid to general practitioners employed after 12, 24 and 36 months of justified service. The value of the bonus depends on both geography (degree of recruitment difficulties over time) and years of continuous service.
